AVRO Canada CEO Crawford Gordon was Canada's most powerful industrialist during this era. A story strongly attached to his person and role in leadership at AVRO was his love affair with his personal secretary. The two fell hopelessly in love. His secretary in the end could not live within this relationship as Crawford's promises of divorcing his wife did not come to pass and she left AVRO for New York City.
When the Arrow project was cancelled and AVRO's doors were closed Crawford chased her to New York City where he ended-up passing away while pursuing her.
The AVRO Canada Delta Wing, CF 105 Fighter Interceptor is among Canada's greatest achievements. Decades ahead of its time, in 1958 AVRO Canada designed and built this incredible aircraft whose performance sets standards even today. A symbol of Canadian pride and excellence, the Mark 2 version of the Arrow powered by AVRO Canada Iroquois engines was capable of Mach 2 flying under full military operational requirements. For a variety of political and economic reasons the project was abandoned and all aircraft were ordered destroyed... a very sad day in Canadian history.
Canadian Use of Force Systems wishes to express its appreciation and respect for Mr. Stewart and his incredible work in documenting the history of the Arrow in written form, in connection with CBC's made for Television Movie, "The Arrow" starring Dan Aykroid and The Canadian National Aviation Museum in Ottawa, Canada.
